Mr. Penn

Hello!

My name is Ernest Penn. I have been a part of Amherst County Public Schools since 1998 when I started the New Direction Program for Monroe Alternative School. In July of 1999, I began serving as the school administrator for the alternative education program and in October 2008, we moved into our newly built alternative school Amherst Education Center, formerly Monroe Alternative School.

I received my Associates of Arts Degree from Ferrum College in 1984 and in 1987 I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration and Management from Virginia Commonwealth University. Prior to being employed by ACPS I taught at Old Dominion Job Corp Center for three and a half years.

It is my belief that all students can learn. The question is, “How can we provide a curriculum and program to fit the need of the students?”  My desire is for Amherst Education Center to have a positive impact on the educational experience of all students and to make a difference in their lives. The staff at AEC is dedicated to providing educational experiences and opportunities for students to be successful regardless of how and why they have entered our programs. Our goal, along with the goal of ACPS, is to meet the need of Every Child, Every Day.

When I am not at work I enjoy spending time with my wife Ingrad and our three children Pierre, Dominique, and Alexandria. We are also blessed to have three grandchildren Arian, Cole, and Dakota. I am also the proud Pastor of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church where I’ve been serving the Lord since 2001.
